Soto Espresso- One of my faves

30 11 2009

I’ve been trying different coffee places around Perth of late. One of my favourites is Soto Espresso on Beaufort St, Highgate. The staff are friendly and cheeky and the service is always good.

The drinks are consistently good and the cakes are garnished beautifully. The cafe has it’s own character and has a really great atmosphere. It’s dog friendly, the staff bring out water for your dog at the tables outside. Apparently it has really good breakfast, I’ve never had breakfast there but I’ll definitely try it one day. It’s open late on Fridays and Saturdays too.

I love meeting up with friends here

First day of break

It’s the first day of break and I’m exhausted. It’s not even 10pm yet. Work tomorrow. Have so much good stuff to do this break. Can’t wait

Dream/ Nightmare

13 11 2009

Dreamt that I lost my job last night.

Yet to decide whether that’s a good or bad thing. It’s not like I’m planning to work there for the rest of my life, but it would be bad because I kinda need the money right now as I’m going away at the end of the year.

I think I had that dream because I just let my boss know that my work availability has changed- won’t be able to work at the peak of the Christmas period..

I have a feeling she’s not going to put me on many shifts.

It felt so real.

Magic

Walked through the pet food aisle of the supermarket yesterday. It was the first time I’ve gone through that section since Mag died. I’ve managed to avoid it for a year because I was afraid that I’d burst into tears in the middle of the store. It wasn’t too bad, brought back lots of good memories. Looking through my computer I compiled some videos and photos together..
Enjoy

Loving You- Paolo Nutini

If Paolo Nutini asked me to marry him I would say yes

The following slideshow is made up of snapshots of my life in Perth in 2005, 2008, 2009. The clean ones anyway..

I am missing a huge chunk of photos from 2006-2007 because I changed computers and have them on a hard drive somewhere. On the up side, it’s almost perfect timing with the music- High Hopes by Paolo Nutini.

Enjoy

Job Applications and the Waiting Game

4 11 2009

I’ve been feeling kinda low since getting that rejection letter after the interview a few weeks back. But I know that there’ll be a great job out there that I’ve yet to find.

I think that post-interview rejections hurts more than getting rejected at any other stage of a job application process. After getting so close to securing a job, knowing that you managed to distinguish yourself from so many other applicants to secure an interview. Getting a glimpse of hope that maybe this is the one, then getting the door slammed in your face. Life moves on and you’ve got to suck it up and move forward.

After doing numerous job applications and attending interviews over the past 2 years for graduate programs, you start to figure out the approximate ‘waiting’ times during the application process.

After applying for a job, usually the same day or a few days after you’ll get a confirmation of receipt of application. Then the waiting game begins..

At this stage you want to wait as long as possible for any news, because that means that you haven’t been rejected at this stage yet. If you get a letter/email that is rather thin in the envelope, that’s 99% likely to be a rejection letter. However, if you get a phone call, it’s probably because you’ve succeeded to get through to the next round of assessments.

Now this assessment/interview part is where it gets tricky.. You don’t want to be notified too soon, or be waiting too long. After the assessments and interviews, you don’t want to be getting anything in the mail just yet. You want a phone call. As soon as you get something via snail mail or email, you’re most probably likely to find that’s its a rejection. That’s right, you WANT THE PHONE CALL!

Unfortunately for me, I got a letter in the mail yesterday.

I guess I’ll be off to do some more applications..
